About the Mooney M20K Encore
The Mooney M20K Encore is the ultimate iteration of the ‘Mid-Body’ M20K fuselage, produced briefly in the late 1990s. It is essentially a modernized ‘252’ with a 220hp Continental TSIO-360-SB engine and a higher gross weight.
Key Features for GA Buyers
- Efficiency: Known for squeezing high cruise speeds (170+ kts) out of a relatively small 220hp engine.
- Turbocharged: The Encore is fully capable in the flight levels (up to FL250), making it an excellent cross-country IFR platform that can top weather.
- Payload Bump: Offers a significant useful load increase over the earlier M20K 231/252 models (approx. 200+ lbs more).
Trade-offs
- Cabin Size: As a mid-body Mooney, rear legroom is tighter compared to the Bravo or Ovation (Long Body).
- Complexity: Requires careful engine management and maintenance typical of turbocharged Continentals.
