About the Remos GX
Overview
The Remos GX is a German carbon-fiber high-wing two-seat Light-Sport aircraft, distinguished by folding wings that swing back along the fuselage without disconnecting the controls, letting an owner trailer it or tuck it into a corner of a shared hangar. A carbon monocoque keeps it light, which buys a useful load higher than most LSAs and a reputation for docile, easy handling that suits transition pilots and recreational flyers.
The GX suits an owner who wants a premium, comfortable Light-Sport with genuine hangar flexibility and does not need four seats or high cruise speed. One caveat is decisive for a buyer: Remos was acquired by Stemme in 2023 and new-airframe production ceased, so the GX is now a used-market proposition, with brand and parts support carried by Stemme rather than an active production line. It remains a strong choice for a buyer who values the folding-wing convenience and light-handling character, provided they treat it as a pre-owned purchase and confirm parts support for the specific serial.
Key Features for GA Buyers
- Folding wings. The wings fold back against the fuselage without disconnecting control linkages, so the GX can live in a trailer or a small hangar footprint, a rare feature in a factory aircraft.
- Wide cabin, big glass. At nearly 47 inches across, the cabin offers real shoulder room, and the large panoramic windows give wide, unobstructed visibility.
- Efficient Rotax power. The fuel-injected 100 hp Rotax 912 iS Sport burns roughly 3.5 to 4.5 gph of mogas or 100LL, holding modeled direct cost near $32 an hour.
- Standard ballistic parachute. Most US GX models carry a BRS whole-airframe recovery parachute as standard equipment.
Trade-offs
- Lively in turbulence. The low wing loading that makes it economical also makes it active in gusts, asking for more hands-on flying on a bumpy approach than a heavier aircraft.
- Sensitive controls. The controls are light and quick, which some pilots find twitchy until they build a few hours in type.
- Out of production. New-airframe manufacturing ended when Stemme acquired Remos in 2023. Brand and parts support continue under Stemme, but the GX is a used-market buy, so verify parts lead times and service support for the specific aircraft before committing.
