About the Legacy 500/Praetor 600

Overview

This page is the Embraer EMB-550 family hub: one type certificate that spans several distinct airplanes, all pioneers of full fly-by-wire in the midsize and super-midsize business-jet classes. Use it to find the right variant; its specifications mirror the current production flagship, the Praetor 600.

  • Legacy 500 – the original 2014 midsize jet, transcontinental range (about 3,125 nm).
  • Praetor 600 – the 2019 super-midsize development, intercontinental range (4,018 nm) on more fuel and full-rated engines.
  • Praetor 600E – the 2026 enhancement, the same performance as the 600 with a 4K “Smart Window” cabin and ROAAS.

The shorter-fuselage Legacy 450 and Praetor 500 share the design under the related EMB-545 type certificate.

Key Features for GA Buyers

Full fly-by-wire. The only family in these classes with full digital flight controls and active turbulence reduction, for a ride and workload profile unmatched by conventional designs.

Flat-floor stand-up cabin. A six-foot flat-floor cabin across the family, among the most spacious in the midsize and super-midsize markets.

Honeywell HTF7500E power. The same engine model across the line, rated at 6,540 lbf on the Legacy 500 and at full 7,528 lbf thrust on the Praetor.

Trade-offs

  • Range is the fork between them. If coast-to-coast US covers your flying, the Legacy 500 is the value entry; if you cross oceans, the Praetor 600 or 600E adds the fuel and thrust for intercontinental legs on the same airframe.
  • New versus in-production. The Praetor 600 is the airplane to shop today; the 600E’s enhancements arrive with deliveries around 2029, while the Legacy 500 lives on the used market.
  • A family page, not one airframe. Confirm exactly which variant a listing is before comparing prices or performance, since the three differ materially in range and value.
