About the Cessna 207 Stationair 7

Overview

The Cessna 207, often called the “Sled” or “Seven-Place,” is the ultimate utility stretch of the Cessna single-engine piston line. By adding 45 inches to the fuselage of the already-capable 206, Cessna created a massive cabin capable of hauling up to eight occupants in later versions. While it lacks the speed of smaller Cessnas, its sheer volume made it the backbone of bush operators and air taxi fleets for decades.

Key Features for GA Buyers

  • Massive Internal Volume: One of the few piston singles where you can genuinely fit seven or eight people (model dependent) or an enormous amount of bulky cargo.
  • Separate Baggage Nose-Compartment: Features a dedicated forward baggage area (in the nose stretch) in addition to the rear cabin space, helping with CG management.
  • Stable Platform: The increased length makes it a very stable instrument platform and provides a smoother ride in turbulence for passengers compared to the shorter 206.
  • Proven Powerplant: Utilizes the Continental IO-520-F, a well-understood engine in the GA community with a massive support network.

Trade-offs

  • Slow and Drags: The extra length and fixed gear result in a relatively slow cruise for 300 HP; expect around 140 knots on a good day.
  • Heavy Controls: It feels like a “truck” in the air. Control forces are significantly heavier than a 182 or even a 206.
  • Runway Requirements: While still a high-wing Cessna, the 207 requires more pavement than its siblings to get over an obstacle, especially when loaded to its 3,800 lb gross weight.
