About the Tecnam P2010 215 HP

Type certificated 2018

Overview

The Tecnam P2010 215 HP (announced in 2017 as the P2010 “MkII”) is the high-output version of Tecnam’s four-seat high-wing single, replacing the base 180-horsepower engine with the 215-horsepower Lycoming IO-390-C3B6 and adding an MT constant-speed propeller, the Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck, and a GFC 700 autopilot. It keeps the carbon-fiber fuselage, metal wings, and three-door cabin of the Tecnam P2010, and was added to the type certificate (EASA.A.576) in 2018.

Choose the P2010 215 HP when you want the family’s strongest climb and cruise on avgas – about 145 KTAS and 1,100 fpm, materially ahead of the 180-hp base – without stepping to the Jet-A diesel. It is the most capable normally aspirated P2010, cross-shopping against the Cessna 172S Skyhawk and other higher-powered four-seaters, and sits between the 180-hp Tecnam P2010 below it and the Jet-A Tecnam P2010 TDI on the diesel side.

Key Features for GA Buyers

  • 215-hp climb and cruise. The Lycoming IO-390 lifts cruise to about 145 KTAS and climb to about 1,100 fpm, the strongest in the P2010 line on avgas.
  • Constant-speed propeller. The MT variable-pitch prop converts the extra power into climb and high-altitude cruise the fixed-pitch 180 hp cannot match.
  • Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck. The MkII revision brought the current twin-screen NXi avionics and a GFC 700 digital autopilot as standard, a credible IFR platform.
  • Composite-and-metal airframe. The same carbon-fiber fuselage, metal wings, and three-door cabin as the rest of the P2010 family.

Trade-offs

  • High-performance endorsement. At 215 hp the aircraft requires a high-performance endorsement, and the constant-speed prop adds propeller management the fixed-pitch 180 hp avoids.
  • Thirstier on avgas. It burns about 12 gph – roughly a third more than the 180 hp – which makes it the costliest P2010 per hour to feed.
  • Not MOSAIC-eligible. The clean stall sits at 59 KIAS, at the sport-pilot gate, and the constant-speed prop and 215-hp engine place it outside sport-pilot privileges regardless.
  • Premium price. The IO-390 and NXi package costs more to buy than the 180-hp base.
