About the AT-602 Air Tractor
The Air Tractor AT-602 is a single-seat, low-wing, taildragger agricultural turboprop introduced in 1996 to bridge the gap between the AT-500 and AT-802 series. Powered by a 1,050 shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-60AG, it carries a 630 US gal chemical hopper and 216 US gal of fuel, cruises around 158 ktas, and climbs at approximately 650 fpm to its service ceiling of 13,120 ft. Its empty weight (with spray equipment) is 5,829 lb against a max takeoff weight of 12,500 lb, yielding a useful load of 6,900 lb. Variants include:
- AT-602A - De-rated PT6A-60AG to 1,000 shp for hot-and-high operations (maintains 630 gal hopper, 12,000 lb landing weight).
- AT-602B - Upgraded PT6A-60AG to 1,100 shp, increased max takeoff weight to 12,500 lb, and optional extended-range tanks (expands ferry range).
- AT-602P - Firefighting version with belly tank replacing hopper for retardant (pressurized plumbing, retains 1,050 shp engine).
All share the same wing (56 ft span), cockpit layout, and rugged spring-steel landing gear designed for heavy agricultural use.
